Red Kite Walk

January 14th 2008 04:30
Red Kite

The Red Kite Walk is a six-mile stroll following the circular bridle path around the Harewood Estate, spotting and talking along the way about the population birds in this area known as Red Kite.

Red Kites are distinctive because of their forked tail and striking colour - predominantly chestnut red with white patches under the wings and a pale grey head. These birds were released on the Harewood Estate in 1999 as part of a UK conservation initiative and today, the population of Red Kites in this area has soared to over a hundred.
