July 6th 2008 21:55
The St John Evangelist Church was built in 1632-1634 and is the city's oldest church and a landmark of Leeds.
St John’s lies is filled with Jacobean fittings, in particular, the carved wooden screen with every part richly decorated with flowers, hearts, twisting vines, and grotesque heads of humans and animals.
The stained glass dates from the 19th century and includes a memorial window to the church’s founder, John Harrison a wealthy local wool merchant and notable benefactor of the church.
